Director, Product Line Management – Storage & Balance of System Products
Description
Join our dynamic teams designing and developing next-gen energy technologies and help drive a sustainable future!
As a Director, you will lead a team of product managers, set the product vision and roadmap, and own the business case and revenue targets for your product lines. You will work across engineering, systems, sales, operations, and marketing to bring industry-leading storage and BOS solutions to residential and commercial markets in the U.S. and globally. You will be the voice for these product lines, interfacing with customers, installers, strategic partners, and senior leadership.
The role is based in Fremont, California or Austin, Texas. This is a full-time, 5-day work week role. Presence in the office is required for a minimum of 3 days per week; on the remaining days, in-office presence may also be required based on business needs. This role requires domestic and occasional international travel (up to 25%). You will report to the Senior Director of Product Line Management and work closely with development teams in the U.S., India, and New Zealand.
Product Vision & Strategy
Own the multi-year product roadmap for storage and BOS, aligned to company strategy, market trends, and business case targets.
Drive VOC (Voice of the Customer) with installers, commercial buyers, utilities, and homeowners to identify unmet needs and prioritize the roadmap.
Develop Market Requirements Documents (MRDs) and business cases that translate customer needs into clear product investments.
Monitor the competitive landscape; track emerging storage and BOS solutions in the market and translate insights into actionable product strategy.
Analyze market sizing, pricing dynamics, local codes and utility regulations (NEC, UL 9540, IEEE Std 1547, etc.) to inform product positioning and feature prioritization.
Product Development & Launch
Lead a team of 3–7 product managers across storage and BOS product lines; provide coaching, mentorship, and clear prioritization. Your success is measured not just by your own performance, but by the outcomes your team delivers.
Collaborate with hardware, software, systems, and firmware engineering teams to translate market requirements into detailed product specifications and feature sets.
Own new product introduction (NPI): lead BETA programs, regulatory submissions (UL, IEC, FCC), and market launch readiness.
Ensure products meet applicable safety, grid interconnection, and compliance standards.
Partner with operations and supply chain on manufacturing readiness, cost targets, and product availability.
Customer, Sales & Ecosystem Enablement
Be the product expert for storage and BOS; engage directly with key customers, installers, utilities, and partners, and support the sales team in key engagements.
Partner with marketing to develop product positioning, messaging, and sales content.
Manage relationships with contract manufacturers, distribution partners, and technology partners.
Represent Enphase storage and BOS at industry events, customer advisory boards, and regulatory forums.
Define, track, and report on key product performance metrics, including revenue, attach rates, NPS, field reliability, and return rates.
Drive continuous improvement through post-launch reviews, field data analysis, and customer feedback loops.
Champion product quality by working with engineering and field service teams to resolve systemic issues rapidly
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline is required.
Master’s degree in an engineering discipline or an MBA from a reputed institution is strongly preferred.
A minimum of 12–15 years of professional experience in Product Management or Systems Engineering in the power electronics, energy storage, or clean energy sector.
At least 3–5 years in a people management or team leadership role, with experience managing a team of product managers.
Demonstrated experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) – product definition, launch, and lifecycle management – is required.
Strong familiarity with balance-of-system (BOS) components: system controllers, load controllers, transfer switches, meter collars, or equivalent.
Ability to define products at both system and component level with clear, actionable requirements.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to communicate complex technical topics to both engineering teams and executive audiences.
Proven ability to influence a matrixed organization spanning engineering, sales, operations, and marketing.
Natural leadership presence, high initiative, and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Comfortable leading work across distributed and offshore development teams.
Experience with grid-tied and off-grid or microgrid energy systems, including residential and commercial/industrial storage.
Familiarity with grid interconnection standards (IEEE 1547, UL 9540, NEC Article 706), utility tariff structures, demand charge management, and VPP/DERMS concepts.
Background in power electronics product development (inverters, converters, transfer switches, or smart switchgear).
Track record of bringing hardware-software integrated products from concept to high-volume production.
Prior experience working in a similar role at a leading solar, storage, or energy management company.
Knowledge of commercial and industrial (C&I) storage market dynamics and customers.
